Signs You are a Good Candidate for Invisalign

Invisalign braces are an excellent orthodontic treatment for teens and adults because they are barely visible and completely comfortable when worn. The cost is relatively the same as traditional braces, but you will not have to suffer from a mouth full of metal. Patients who are over the age of 13 with healthy gums and any of the problems listed below are ideal candidates for Invisalign braces. Here are some of the conditions that Invisalign can solve.

Yellow series - giggle

Overcrowded teeth. This is a common reason to get braces, and it occurs because there is simply not enough room in the jaw for the teeth to fit side by side. This problem worsens with time, as crowding prevents certain areas from being properly cleaned with regular brushing and flossing.

Spaced teeth. If the jaw is overgrown, then there may be too much space between each tooth, leaving the exposed gums highly susceptible to damage. Usually, the teeth will continue to shift until this problem is corrected because of the extra space.

Overbite. This problem, often caused by genetics, occurs when the top teeth bite over the lower teeth. People with this type of bite are at a higher risk for fractures or cracks in the teeth since they overlap while resting.

Under bite. The upper and lower jaw may not develop in sync with each other. With an underbite, the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth. This misalignment can lead to serious discomfort in the jaw as well as headaches.

Cross bite. When the upper and lower jaws are misaligned, some of the upper teeth may bite inside the lower teeth. This leads to uneven wear of the tooth enamel, chips or cracks in the teeth, and discomfort while biting or chewing.

It is never too late to correct your smile, and with Invisalign you can do it without embarrassment or painful metal wires. Schedule a consultation with Charles M. Marks, D.D.S. and Dental Associates to start your Invisalign treatment plan. Call (212) 279-1232 or visit our website to make an appointment.
