Parts of a Dental Implant

A dental implant is comprised of three components that together mimic the appearance and function of a single natural tooth. This video describes what these components are and how they work together.

The first part is the titanium implant. This piece of the dental implant goes into the jaw where it bonds with the surrounding bone. The second part is the abutment. Once the titanium implant is securely in the jawbone, the dentist screws the abutment into it. This abutment provides a foundation for the last part, the crown. The crown is typically made from porcelain, which allows it to closely resemble a natural tooth.
