Tooth Extraction Recovery Tips

Tooth extraction is a process that is often necessary for oral health and can usually be done by your primary dentist. In order to prevent infection and encourage proper healing, it’s important to keep a few tips in mind while recovering from this basic procedure.

Just after your extraction, it’s vital that you do not disturb the affected area. This means no poking, heavy rinsing, or cigarette smoking. In addition, you should avoid exercise and strenuous activity during the recovery period to prevent excess bleeding. Twenty-four hours after surgery, you may begin rinsing your mouth with saltwater—especially after meals. Continue this procedure on the third day of recovery, too. If you experience persistent, uncontrollable bleeding at any time during recovery, be sure to call your dentist.

At Charles M. Marks D.D.S. and Dental Associates, we help you through all of the stages of tooth extractions to ensure that you have a smooth experience. We do extractions in New York on a regular basis; call our office at (929) 252-9658 for more information about the extraction procedure and our other general dentistry services.
